Orthodox Christian women have a special ministry in the life of a parish. Their role as messengers of the Gospel, teachers, and sustainers of the faith has been central to Church growth since the time of Christ.
The St. George Ladies Altar Society (LAS) exercises general supervision of the Altar and supplies all of its needs. They also promote religious, humanitarian, and social programs that affect the life and growth of our church and community.
The LAS is part of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Women of North America (AOCWNA). Their purpose is to develop among the women a spirit of Christian leadership, awareness, and commitment; to foster a genuine expression of love and service through works of charity; and to install a sense of fellowship and a deeper understanding of our Holy Orthodox Faith. They are a "Sisterhood Serving Christ Through Serving Others." For more information about AOCWNA, please visit http://ww1.antiochian.org/women.
The Ladies Altar Society meets on the second Wednesday of every month (except for the months of June, July and August), and welcomes any parishioner willing to share her talents and wisdom.
